But what does the Bible have to say about this? I will quote a few verses below.

When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.

Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

1 Peter 5:2-6 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
Now in gathering these verses I found a list using the NIV. The NIV is, of course, a horrendous translation of the Bible, but in reading thee and other verses, comparing it to the KJV, one finds many verses say completely different things! Now, the KJV has its problems for sure, especially now that the Apocrypha has been removed in modern times, but the NIV is so error-filled, that it should not be used by anyone! I never knew just how bad that so-called "translation" was until I compared so many verses this morning!
Thank you for posting this. I use the KJV exclusively for the same reason as you. But there are times when I must turn to the NIV to get some idea of what a context might be in the KJV. These scriptures you have posted do well to remind me of just how often I forget my place. So easy it is to spend time trying to help others come to know God and I forget my own humility.
