My Novel, "Vhaidra & the DESTINY of Nikodemos", is Available Internationally in Both eBook and Paperback Versions NOW!

 

My novel, Vhaidra & the DESTINY of Nikodemos, is now available as an eBook, for those of you who prefer electronic versions of books rather than the paper and print versions. 

Currently at Amazon it is ranked #3 in Romantic Action & Adventure and #15 in Fantasy Action & Adventure for new releases (released in the last 90 days) as of today! At Barnes & Noble it is ranked #1 in English Drama, #4 in Fantasy Drama English Literature, and #22 in Epic Fantasy in new releases (released in the last 30 days)! 2009 -> Transitioning -> 2010


What a year 2009 was! I was forced to switch from Mac OS X to Windows XP with the death of my last Mac, which also switched my Linux distro from FixStars' Yellow Dog Linux to Ubuntu (except on the Sony PlayStation 3). I finally got my wife home after a year of  immigration red tape, I lost another beloved grandparent, I changed jobs, got laid off, moved to a state I never thought I would return to, and learned a lot. And that last part is important. If you stop learning, you are dead. Never stop learning. I have likely learned more about myself this year than any other year of my life. No, it was not some spiritual introspection, or anything like that, but my wife teaching me about myself. She obviously knows me better than I know myself, and she assures me this is "a normal phenomenon". Her knowing me so well has helped me to overcome many of my failings, and she is helping me to become a much better man, every day!

This last year my brother's family and my family have started a new tradition. Every weekend we have dinner together. Usually at his home, although we bring dishes, and sometimes a movie to watch.This last year has also seen my daughter go from a "D+" average student to an "A-" average student. Likewise, my wife has decided to become a Christian. I never forced any beliefs on her, but being in a community with many Chinese Christians, they could better explain the Faith, which has made her into a strong believer. Her strong zeal has helped my zeal to return as well. These 3 changes above are all because of my move back to Texas. An unanticipated move that I see happened for a reason. His Will be done!

Next year will come with many ore changes as well, I am sure. My daughter will become a senior in high school. My wife will be Baptized, we will likely have a new baby on the way, and I hopefully will find a new, good job. I ask your continued prayers, my friends, and may us all have a successful, prosperous, enlightening 2010, and come 14 February, a blessed Chinese Lunar Calendar's Year of the Tiger! As my daughter would say, "RAWR!"

Busy Days!

Yesterday I deleted http://orthodox.blogspot.com - the original address of this blog (Orthodox Ecclesiology... and Insane Ramblings) that I had received from Justin Kissel after he abandoned the domain. It became my blog on Ubuntu and Yellow Dog Linux on Apple eMacs, iBooks, PowerBook G4s, etc. But now my Macs are all dead (save for an old G1 PowerBook that runs Mac OS 9 & YDL 3) and I exclusively use a Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2 netbook. So now it is time for someone else to claim this domain for their own.

My wife comes to America in just 9 more days. So today I am doing a thorough cleaning of my house. Today is also laundry day, so busy, busy, busy!
Speaking of my wife, today I video chatted with her and her elder and twin sister on QQ. Then I cleaned the kitchen wall watching Star Trek: Generations. I m taking a break right now, I will post this then move on to my room and the bathroom. FUN!

Yellow Dog Linux 6.0 for PS3 and PPC systems ready

Version 6.0 of Yellow Dog Linux (YDL) represents a change of direction for Terra Soft Solutions. Fedora has been largely replaced by CentOS as the basis for the distribution. This should make it easier for the distributor to maintain the distribution for Power Architecture, as the CentOS development team maintain their distribution significantly longer than Fedora, which is more focused on new software.

Ultimately this about-turn changes little for YDL users, as the packages from CentOS 5.0/5.1 which form the basis of YDL 6.0 are derived from the same version of the commercial Red Hat Enterprise Linux distribution which is in turn based on Fedora Core 6. The software included in YDL 6.0 is thus only a little more recent compared to YDL 5.0, which was based on Fedora Core 5. Terra Soft Solutions has therefore in some instances included packages from more recent version of Fedora.

YDL 6.0 is suitable for PPC systems such as the Playstation 3 (PS3), Apple PowerPC G4 and G5 and IBM System p (JS2x, 510, 520, 540). In addition to GNOME, the resource-saving E17 desktop, which copes better with the PS3's modest consignment of RAM, is also installed. The distributor has also integrated the Cell SDK 3.0 for the PS3 and other systems equipped with Cell processors. Initially the new version of YDL will only be available to paying customers. It should be available to download for free in about a month.

Electronic Sheep Conclusion


Last night, I could not sleep well at all. This morning I realized I had plugged in an AirPort extender to test and had forgotten about it. This leads me to believe that it was indeed the electronics being absent that led me to lack of sleep.

Rewired Sleep

HOWTO: Get Chinese Characters to Appear Properly in Yellow Dog Linux v5

To get Chinese working properly in Yellow Dog Linux 5.0.1 (Phoenix):

First go to Add/Remove Programs and install Chinese.

Next install the RPM font packages from the following links (simply by clicking on the RPM download links in Firefox):
Then log out and log back in again, or reboot if you prefer.

Finally set Firefox so that it uses the 3 fonts you get from here, and now all your Chinese (and probably Japanese kanji too) characters will appear correctly!

Terra Soft Solutions Are Good People

This Too Was Dugg... is supposed to be my blog with Yellow Dog Linux stories, but 2 days in a row that is what this blog is all about! And for the 2 days before that this blog was all about sane Orthodox Ecclesiology. Go figure. Anyway today I traveled to Loveland, Colorado to visit the folks at Terra Soft Solutions. I met Kai Staats, the CEO and some of the ladies at work in the warehouse and picked up a DVD of Yellow Dog Linux 5.0.1. since I could not get a good download of the freely available ISOs. These people are just as great as their product and it was nice to meet them. So tomorrow I should be all upgraded and blogging from Yellow Dog Linux 5.0.1 on my Apple Macintosh 1.67 GHz PowerPC G4 15" PowerBook. And thankfully due to MOL: Mac-on-Linux I can access my Mac OS X 10.4.9 partition without having to boot back in to Mac OS X.
